Fonnabu-Holmaskjer, Crossing Folgefonna

We have started the 2021 season for crossing the Folgefonna glacier. You meet our glacier guide at 09:00 at Fonnabu and are then guided from the west to the east side of the glacier. Sometimes we also guide the opposite direction. The hike over the glacier is easy, takes about 3 hours, 6 km in length and about 150 meters to climb. After a lunch at Holmaskjer you hike down to Odda and can catch the public bus 17:25 (line 760) back to Sundal if you have your car there.

In total this is a two days hike, day 1 you start in Sundal and hike on your own to the Fonnabu Cabin, we estimate 6-8 hours on this hike, its 1400 metes to climb. You will find water to drink on your way, but have at least a 1liter bottle with you.

Day 2 after the glacier guiding with us, you need 4-5 hours down to Odda, we recommend poles even if your knees are young and fit.

We offer also guiding all the way from Sundal to Odda including accommodation and dinner at Fonnabu, but most people choose to hike on their own to Fonnabu and down from Holmaskjer, so we only guide over the glacier.
