How to get there?

Your adventure is only 2 hours away from Bergen, 6 hours away from Oslo, and 4,5 hours from Stavanger.

Traveling by public transport and emission-free is clearly the future and what we want. As of now, it requires a little extra effort and potentially a little waiting time if you want to get to Folgefonna by public transport. Jondal is located along the route to the express bus with 3 daily departures each way Oslo-Bergen. We can offer pick-up service from Jondal.

Book pickup service:

Bus/car

Using car when visiting us is definitely the easiest, bus can often be more comfortable.

When planning your stay with us, the easiest is to use a car, but in main season there are daily public transport all the way from Bergen to Fonna Glacier Center where most of our glacier hikes starts. Please use route planners or rent a car. We also offer pickup service from Jondal to Fonna Glacier Center, book this together with your hike. For Glacier Kayak in Rosendal there are express boat from Bergen, also here there are options with public bus. We offer pick-up service from Rosendal for the Glacier Kayak tour.

Ferry/boat

Folgefonna is surrounded by the Hardangerfjord. There are car ferries and boats available according to what suits your journey.

Since Folgefonna is  almost encircled by a fjord you probably need to cross the fjord to reach the glacier. If you travel by car, you must use a ferry, either Tørvikbygd-Jondal, Gjermundshavn-Årsnes, or Kvandal Utne, depending on your itinerary. There is also a tourist boat route on the fjord that corresponds with public transport to Fonna Glacier Center. See timetables and info.

Jondal

Jondal is a small fjord village with status as a national park village. Only 5 villages in Norway have this status.

In Jondal you will find grocery stores, accommodation and restaurants. From Jondal, the «Glacier road» goes all the way up to Fonna Glacier center where many of the glacier tours start. Highly recommend taking a few extra days in Jondal and experiencing the fjord, the mountains and the people who live here. There are almost 40 marked tour paths you can hike on your own, fish in lakes or in the fjord, beaches by the fjord where you can take a bath. Paradise!

Hardanger

Hardanger region is fjords, mountains and glaciers. Waterfalls, hundreds of thousands of fruit trees and vibrant villages.

The Hardangerfjord - the third-longest in the world - contains the best Norway has to offer. With a rich food and cultural history, world-renowned icons and unique nature experiences, it is easy to understand why Hardanger has been a popular destination for hundreds of years. The region, with the municipalities of Kvam, Eidfjord, Kvinnherad, Ullensvang and Ulvik, is an eldorado that is difficult to describe in words. You have to experience it for yourself.
